What are some of your ideas for the person who wins the consultation?

The first thing we’d need to know is what their lifestyle is like. What do they need? What are they lacking? With many people working from home, they are looking around like, Where can I put a desk? Where can I hang my pencils and pens and stack my papers? So if that is what is needed, then we can certainly create a “cloffice” space. Or many folks are looking for a creative mode of expression since they can’t necessarily go out and travel and do all the fun things. People are taking up new hobbies like scrapbooking and crocheting. We can create a craft station. Maybe someone will need a meditative retreat. I posted my meditative space on Instagram, and somebody actually said they created an emotional-stability closet. “Whenever I want to cry, I just go in there and cry,” they said.

If someone wants to try to create one of these spaces on their own, what are some space-saving hacks they should keep in mind?

For organizational purposes and functionality, we have to take ourselves out of the box of thinking that everything has to be lateral. You can also build up and utilize wall space, especially in small areas. You can layer. You can stack. That is one of the biggest hacks, and you can accomplish it with Command. If you are going to do a crafting station you can do several layers of hooks and put containers on the wall. It is harm-free and no tools needed. Sometimes people have the mental illusion that putting too much on the wall feels junky, but actually, it can be very beautiful when done correctly.

How would you describe your personal style when it comes to home decor?

I would say comfy luxe. I don’t want to sacrifice high design and something that is edgy and beautiful and makes me feel good. But at the same time, the reality is I do have three kids and they are going to be messy and jump on things. What I had to do was incorporate comfort and durability with performance fabrics.

When will fans see you on TV again?

Well, I just did the Beach Cabana Royale with Snooki—you may remember her from Jersey Shore. We judged several designers who designed cabanas. It was really offbeat, but a lot of fun. You can watch it on Discovery+. Also my husband and I were judges on Rock the Block, which just ended. Right now I can’t tell you much more except to say that my husband and I just started filming something!
